Wal-Mart Music Store is a substantial, no-frills music download service that takes the process of searching for a song to a new level of simplicity. They offer more than 3 million MP3 formatted tracks. Also, with a price tag of just $.94 a song, Wal-Mart beats the competition by several cents and is truly one of the best values around.
Wal-Mart's MP3 model ensures all popular media players will work with their service, including iPod and Zune. Their selection includes most popular artists and their recent albums. However, we need to alert you that explicit songs and albums are edited; there is no option to purchase the unedited versions.
You can search Wal-Marts library by artist, song and album. Everything we typed into the search produced correct and valid results. Downloaded songs are encoded at a 256 bitrate.
We found that the download center is not designed for cross-browser or platform compatibility. It is only 100 percent compatible with Internet Explorer and Windows based computers. You can browse through the selection in a different browser, like FireFox, but if you want to buy something, we suggest you log out and use IE.
To access the site and songs, you need to have ActiveX installed and you need to download their music manager application. This application is a lot like the Amazon MP3 app.
Wal-Mart no longer offers additional digital media options like television or movie downloads.
